The 2016 Harvest Festival was a great success with something for everyone, young and older alike. There was the making of Apple Cider with many participants taking part in the cutting up the apples, grinding into a mush, pressing to obtain the Apple juice and then straining and filling the the one quart containers. The volunteers began with about 1000 Honey Crisp apples and converted them to about 80 one half gallon containers of Apple Cider.

A total of about 85 people attended the dinner where a good time was had by all including great food and fellowship. Carol McComis and Richard Schneiderman prepared the turkey and all the traditional thanksgiving items while others brought the trimmings and desserts. Our annual Fall Festival took place on October 24, 2015. It the time of year when we remember and cherish the bounty that the Lord has provided. It is also a time of celebration, fellowship and fun for all ages. The hosts for the event, the United Methodist Men (UMM) made sure there was plenty of food available in the pot luck including about 10 entries in the “chili” contest. In addition to the pot luck and the chili there was a cake walk for all, bobbing for apples and of course the making of apple cider.
A total of 60 quarts of apple juice/cider were prepared with many individuals helping with the preparation of the apples, squeezing the juice, filling the containers and of course placing on the steps of the church for aging. All of the prepared cider was sold with funds donated.
All those present were involved in the chili contest as each person had a chance to vote on which chili recipe was the best. The one voted best was named “Annie and Netties Recipe” which was prepared by a first time entrant dethroning the perennial champion. There was even one entry by proxy who tried to sneak in “canned and store bought” product but was unsuccessful.
Probably the fun highlight of the day was “bobbing for apples” with both old and young participating with their individualized technique.
Finally the cake walk took place and the winner of the chili contest was announced. In all it was a fun day involving both the church and the local community to once again come together in food and fellowship.
Mt Home UMC held its annual Spaghetti Dinner on the evening of September 12th and a great time was had by all.
